Free Post (Late)

To start off  I think the YMCA Y scholars program is a great idea ,but it was poorly executed. I don’t know if that is TMA’s fault or the YMCA’s. I think that it is TMA’s fault for starting so late in the school year. There was no time to really do anything with an impact. I felt most of our time was spent making posters for impromptu events. My suggestions to the YMCA are that if next year the volunteering program starts as late as this one did it would be best to just take the students to things like the Harlem Hospital Sex-Ed class and to continue to do all the walks out there. Those things make us feel like we actually did something in the program.
My favorite part of the program was the Homelessness & Hunger rally. Even though that was thrown in there last minute I thought it was fun. I enjoyed people on the street recognizing and thanking us for our efforts to bring awareness to Homelessness & Hunger. I also liked that we got to help a hungry person first hand. Even though I only had a few cents to give him I was happy I gave him something. The poster that Teanna, Shaleena ,and I worked on came out great. Even though, it fell apart in the end. I wish I would've taken a picture. Lol Yaya screaming help like he was hurt was too funny.
The advice I would give to future participants would be to just show up. As long as you come whenever your assigned date is your be fine for hours. Also, occasionally got th the extra hour trips. Dont let you feel bad for not going to all of them you will have enough hours regardless. I also would suggest to pick a topic that everyone cares about. I think more effort would be put into the projects if people cared more.

Class response (late)

In class we are learning different theories. Like Critical Race Theory, feminism, and Fruads theory about children being romantically in love with their parents. To help us analyze the theories we watch different episodes of shows that showcase the theories. So far we have watched American Horror story Season 2 this season is set in a really old(lol can't remember what time) insane asylum. A bunch of stuff happens this girl thinks she's Ann Frank, another girl is going through a nasty therapy to reverse her being gay, and two patients get caught having sex so they are punished. Thought out all of that happening the class took note of things that applied to Fruads theories. We also watched an episode of the Big Bang theory. The episode had a tongue twister name. This episode was primarily about the female scientists Bernandate got offered a magazine shoot in California's top ten hottest scientists. She was really happy about it, but her friend who is also a scientist did not want her todo the shoot. She thought that women scientist should be recognized for the accolades and not their bodies. She also mentioned how there were not that many female scientist and what Bernandate does represents all of them. I think this show says there are many ways to be a feminist one woman or mans way of being a feminist is neither right or wrong. The last show we watched was an episode is Scandal. This episode was probably produced because of the the recent murders of innocent black men(boys) by police. In the episode a 17 year old boy was confronted by a police officer over a stolen phone and it led to the boy being shot and killed by the police officer. The police officer said that his life was threatened by the boy pulling out a pocket knife on him, but really he was pulling out a receipt for the phone. In the episode the father is outraged the neighborhood is outraged because of the how the police were "protecting" the area. This episode also brings up the side of police officers. Basically the show said that black people (referred to in the show by the officer as those people) don't respect police or their authority and that's why things get out of hand. After the class watched all the shows we discussed them and how they related to the theories in a Socratic seminar.

Passion blog ----- Like blog

Image result for supernatural funnyI do not have enough passion for things to write multiple passion blogs on them. So I am just gonna write a blog about things I like. I like Supernatural a CW11 original TV show. It has been on for many years. I remember being scared of it when I was in the 5th grade. Now that I am earlier I can get into the story line and get over the scary parts. Last nights episode, was intense because Dean (one of the Winchester brothers) is wearing the mark of Kain and it is making crazy violent. He is killing innocent people and more importantly he almost killed Castile (an angel of the lord). Sam (Dean's brother) is desperately trying to find ways to remove the mark of Kain. But, in the process he is turning into a bad person. In the show a moral questions comes to play: How far will you go to get what you want? and How far is to far?. It seems like Sam is gonna go to far and there are gonna be huge consequences. Next week is the season Finale.

Another thing that I like are Cheeseburgers!!!!!!
I really love the way mayo, Ketchup, cheese, and a potato bun taste together. Its almost breath taking. One day, maybe in college I will stop eating meat and transition into a vegan. I know it will probably be easier to be a vegetarian first but I want to go cold turkey.

Class Related Response

In Ms. Hegehmens 12th grade english class we just finished acting out scenes from a Midnight Summer Dream . We went to BAM and a group from all of the classes that participated in the program got the chance to perform their work in front of everyone. I think for amateur actors they did a really good job. Some of the groups memorized their scripts and had costumes on. That showed they were really committed.

Now in class we are writing essays about gender roles and sexism inside of Shakespeare plays. Before we started writing we learned about the difference between female/male and Masculine/Feminine. That was interesting. A boy in the class did not understand or I guess disagreed with the point that if you call a women a female that is disrespectful, because you are limiting her to just a reproductive system and nothing more. I guess I agree with that I do not really care about that.

Another thing that happening in class is Ms. Hegeman not adding my blog back to the blog roll. No one can comment or find my blog if its not there. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Career Warfare

Even though, reading Career Warfare was mandatory for me to read I am happy that I actually put effort in to reading it. The book is usually targeted towards working business people with a career ,but I am only a high school student with limited working experience and I think that I got the massage. This book teaches you how to build a personal brand that reflects what you are really worth, how to work with your boss, no matter where he or she stands in the organization, Why what you know isn't enough — your social skills count, too, why sometimes you have to acknowledge defeat and move on, why you sometimes have to take a stand and make enemies, how to handle the isolation that comes with success and not let yourself lose touch with those who really matter — your customers and shareholders, how to handle a major crisis without losing your identity or business, and how to take the calculated risks that will let you rise to the top and avoid. I do not have a career or any big business crisis yet, but when I do hopefully I will be prepared to handle them. Also, it talked about different dynamics in the work place between your boss, co-workers, and customers. While reading that I could see that in my everyday life, I actually started putting people in my life in the categories talked about in the book. A lot of the professionals that I talked to about the book said they reread the book over and over again because each time they learn something new. So I am definitely going to read this while I am in college, when i get my first adult job, and when I get into professional and personal relationships.

The walking dead .

I just finished watching The Walking Dead and I must say that this is the best show on TV right now. The best acting, writing, graphics, BEST EVERYTHING. I've been into a lot of other shows on TV but this one for me just takes the cake. I LOVE IT. I am sad that this is the season finale but at least it was 90 mins. of greatness. Glenn almost dies he almost kills someone , but he can't. Carol is still a badass. The people at Alexandria think Rick is crazy but they just don't know that you have to be crazy in that world to survive. That black guy comes back. There are new bad guys. So much more happened I can't even think of it all. I don't even known how I started watching. It was two seasons three seasons ago and to catch up on the prior seasons I binged watched the whole day.

Some people think the walking dead is to scary to watch. I sorta agree I just think it's intense a lot of the time. I don't really known what I would do in that type of situation. I can only hope that  this show and video games have prepared me for it.

Ms. Hegemans class

In Ms. Hegehman class we are learning about Shakespeare and his work. We are working with this actor teacher guy named W.T that is helping us act out different scenes in a Midsummers night dream. Ive only been in two classes with him but so far its fun. We play this game called yosemidy or something idk.  But its when different actions are called out when you are roaming around and you have to stay still and do the action. That game has been fun, we have also played another game were we had to show our dominance when walking and the submissive person would move. I wasnt here for that game but I heard it was fun. I like a Midsummers night dream it seems real. I can see these characters in my everyday life. First we were suppose to read Hamlet I am glad we did not read Hamlet it does not seem interesting. In middle school I read Othello. That was the first time I read a Shakespeare piece. I don't remember it much ,but I think it was a good book.

ID Post

I am excited to be learning about economics in school because I want to go to college for that and business. Before this class I thought that economics was a math course, which I was really worried about because I am not that good at math. I feel like I am better at math as a class but not when I take a test, if that makes any sense. Anyway, so far economics has been fun we created mini bakery businesses. Now we are just taking notes, but that's cool.

In statistics I have always had the second or third highest grade. That class is really easy, but I wouldn't say that its a lot of math. I want to someday be number one in that class but Shaleena keeps taking that spot. So hopefully I will make it there before I graduate.

In English we are learning about Shakespeare, I've read two of his plays in school and they were good. So I'm looking forward to learning more about him and his literature.

10 Ways Anyone Can Graduate From college Debt Free

In my college readiness class my teacher Mr. Washington gave us a book called 10 Ways Anyone Can Graduate From college Debt Free. This book is a great idea and I do not know why it is not a best seller. Everyone should want to know how to graduate from college debt free. A lot of the adults that I know still have debt to pay back from college and they are know in their forties and fifties. This book should have been around for them.

The first strategy for being debt free is college excel in high school. This strategy leads me to believe that college readiness classes should start in the ninth grade. The ninth grade is one of the most important years of a persons life because it lays the foundation for your GPA early and for you behavior in high school. Many students usually do bad in the ninth grade because they do not fully realize that after high school is college. Like they know that one day they will go to high school but they are not fully aware that everything they do in ninth grade will affect where you go to college. I did not really think about college in the ninth grade, my grades weren't good in the ninth grade. Now that I am in the 12th grade all I think about is I am going to raise my kid. My kids are going to be learning SAT words before they learn small simple words. They are gonna do elementary school and high school the same way college is done. If they have 45 minutes of a math class they are going to be at home studying and reviewing that math for an hour an ten minutes. Things like that so they are prepared for college and doing good in school becomes natural to them.
